| You
hear the one about the government who want to force you to spend 90 odd
quid on being branded like cattle? Join the top name performers who say
'No2ID' in this benefit show.
In
October last year some of the biggest names in the world of comedy
stood-up in front of 2000 sympathisers at the Hackney Empire in London to
protest against The Government’s plans to introduce compulsory ID cards
in the United Kingdom.
It is this Government’s intention to charge you for the privilege
of having these cards and to keep all your details on a national database.
A lot of people don’t like the idea and organised a
campaign against it. Some of the people who didn’t like the idea and
took to a stage to raise funds for the campaign included BBC’s Mock The
Week host Dara O’Briain, the Perrier Award winning Daniel Kitson,
Perrier Best Newcomer winners Will Hodgson and Gary Le Strange as well as
if.comeddie nominees Paul Sinha and Josie Long and telly talking head Lucy
Porter.
Now
it’s the turn of the Glasgow No2ID campaign to make their grand stand
with some of the best comics in the land entertaining a packed Old
Fruitmarket and telling the Government that they’re “having a
laugh.”
All
proceeds from this event go to NO2ID - the national campaign against ID
cards and the database state. NO2ID is a non-partisan campaign group
supported by all sorts of people from a wide range of political
viewpoints, and some of our supporters are very funny.
