Festival Highlights This years Glasgow Comedy Festival is 18 days long, finishing on Easter Sunday. So you're going to give up being miserable for lent. Here's our guide to 40 days of giggles Day 1 - Day 22 Watch your Scrubs, Curb Your Enthusiasm or Monty Python DVD box set or read some Christopher Brookmyre novels. Day 23 onwards Thursday 6 March The best way to make friends this festival is to join the baptism of fire which is Stand Up Drink Up! the comedy Pub Crawl. At 7.30pm in Lauries you will know very few people. By 11pm in Arta you'll have made 100 new best pals and know their back story. Friday 7 March If Graham Norton ran a TV comp for comedy tribute acts the Big Yin Revisited would win every time. After that go across the street for Bumper Value Southside until 1am Saturday 8 March Decisions, decisions...Bruce Morton or Frank Sidebottom. It's easy really, if you are already a fan of Frank it's a no brainer, but if not then go and see Bruce Morton. Round your evening off with a trip to Late'n'Loud at Lauries Sunday 9 March Canadian Glenn Wool has a knack of lulling you into his warm cosy comedy breast before baring his comedy soul with a full frontal assault on your giggle box. Monday 10 March We're thinking... Tuesday 11 March It's probably been cold wet and miserable all weekend, but stuff it. Join comedian and know it all Alan Anderson and a few nutters for a traipse round the city Wednesday 12 March Now where's that Brookmyre book Thursday 13 March Best of Scottish Comedian of the Year - it does exactly what it says on the tin. Friday 14 March Spend the night at Maggie May's with 2 contrasting styles of comedy from cuddly Janice Phayre to crazy Jim Jeffries. Saturday 15 March It'll be a right royal battle at Arta between Scotland and England to see who wins the World series challenge & is crowned the funniest nation. Whilst at the same time the Irish don't care cos they're all having a massive Paddy's party. Sunday 16 March Patrick Monahan is the loveliest man in comedy. He's also Jonathon Ross' warm up man. Monday 17 March Gotta be the All Ireland St Patrick's day party Tuesday 18 March Do you wanna go for a walk again? Wednesday 19 March and again? Thursday 20 March Interactive murder mystery capers where the Plot thickens Friday 21 March Now this is the big one... a very trick choice tonight Do you go for Ed Byrne and the anarchic antics of Maxwell's Fullmooners or be patriotic and see some great Scottish comedians in Paul Pirie and Martha McBrier? Saturday 22 March This year's Scottish Comedian of the Year Sean Grant performing his debut solo show juxtaposes nicely with the cod father (yep cod father) of Scottish comedy Stu Who? Sunday 23 March Easter Sunday, the sun is shining, the birds are tweeting and Alan Anderson is going to take you on an open top tour of the city. Then you can warm up at the closing party at Bumper Value Comedy Southside n Agenda. Easter Monday We're off to climb a mountain once the hangover has eased off. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
